But Stefano Torossi himself later both clarified and confused the tale further by explaining that Feelings was the work of four people not just Gazzani and himself. Fellow composers and musicians Sandro Brugnolini and Puccio Roelens also worked on the album and as Torossi himself explained “we all worked together”, with all four gents “dividing the royalties in equal parts… that’s the story.” Right, so, with that all sorted out let’s get back to talking about the music. As a matter of fact, the Whatnauts’ manager, Bunch Herndon, makes guest appearance on the album as percussionist. Beside the core group of Watson, McTeer and McCoy, the album's line-up features several other cult musicians and also the orchestrator Sammy Lowe, a seasoned professional who had been arranging for Sam Cooke, James Brown and Nina Simone to name just a few. ​\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis solid group of session musicians worked their magic in the studio offering the perfect setting to Watson's compositions. On most of the album, Watson decided to add a social and political edge, a direction that was popular at the time with Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On' and Curtis Mayfield's 'Superfly' having just been released to huge success. Kicking off the album is the Funk killer “Time is Running Out” featuring a huge Hammond organ-led groove, enhanced by a powerful brass section and funky guitar licks. The song is mostly instrumental except for the refrain sung ad-lib over the formidable groove. ​\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe song is followed by \"Only People Can Save the World\" a soulful ballad based on a similar structure with the title sung over a catchy instrumental. The song is in fact the instrumental version of the Whatnauts' song of the same name which was also released in 1972. ​The album continues on the Funk vein with the instrumental \"Headhunter\" featuring another explosive groove, followed by \"World,\" a protest song dealing with the impact of the Vietnam war among the African American community. The pace slows down with \"Trails” before going back to its deep funk foundations with the instrumental \"Lock Your Door\" and ending on a sixties soul note with the track \"Boots in the Snow.\" ​\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"st__content-block st__content-block--text\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNobody seems to have an explanation as to why this elusive album is so rare fueling rumours it actually never came out. Features Brainstory, KIRBY, and Son Little. When Leon Michels and El Michels Affair released their ­first record, \u003ci\u003eSounding Out The City\u003c\/i\u003e, in 2005, it was hard to guess what was next for Michels and his then-introduced, now-patented “cinematic soul” sound. Now, four EMA studio albums and scores of tribute and remix projects later all while producing for some of the biggest names in the industry Michels has trademarked his sound, with each project taking audiences somewhere new and pushing the boundaries of what he is known for. The man is a river, not a lake and this time he takes his golden touch into the realm of hip-hop laying down a musical bed for one of the greatest to ever rhyme into a microphone: Black Thought of The Roots crew. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMichels and Black Thought have been in each other's orbit for a while now. The two fi­rst met in the 2000s when Thought was fi­rst getting familiar with the contemporary soul scene. \"Out of that whole world, Menahan Street Band was probably my favourite,\" recalling the funk and soul group Michels was a founding member of back in 2007. Fast forward a few years and musicians from that collective Dave Guy on trumpet and Ian Hendrickson-Smith on sax are now full time players with The Roots.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBeing that Black Thought is the co-founder and emcee for, hands down, the best live-band group in hip-hop. Michels took a decidedly different approach to this project and instead of sending recorded tracks of live compositions, he pulled out the sampler and sampled himself and some records from his collection. \"I'm a big fan of soul music,\" as if Michels has to remind us. \"And part of hip-hop's appeal to me has always been the sample-based production\".
