Junkfood & Enrico Gabrielli 'Italian Masters' LP
The streets of Enrico Gabrielli and the members of Junkfood are crossed several times in the past in a variety of contexts and collaborations (Calibro 35, Incident on south street, UPM, etc.) But never the two entities had been found, so say, under the same roof. The occasion is revealed thanks to the Festival HalloBigallo 2014 dedicated to the figure of Piero Umiliani, inviting both to perform with the prayer to include some readings in personnel key from the repertoire of the Maestro. After the pleasant experience Junkfood and Gabrielli agree to meet at the Vacuum Studio of Bruno Germano (Iosonouncane) in Bologna. This has come "Italian Masters", dedicated to the figures of some of the greatest Italian composers of film scores. The result exceeds expectations, the beautiful music of Umiliani, Morricone and Trovajoli are distorted and filtered by the sensitivity of the five, while maintaining their unmistakable identity as is always the case when it comes to great music.
In games played, what is most striking is precisely the incredible consistency despite the different authorship of the compositions and the very wide range of situations and solutions that musicians bring into the field inside the music, which results in a sound that is beyond both the proprietary and other projects of individual performers. The quintet succeeds in the difficult task of stand comparison with models and simultaneously develop its own poetic and an independent sound, that make Italian Masters real gem so much for the fanatics of film music, but for newbies calling to those ones shores lured by the sirens of Gabrielli and Junkfood.
